January 2025

We rang in the New Year while working at Club Charlies with a few close friends and dozens of tipsy customers. We kept the party going until a “late” 3:30am. There is no bar close time in Wisconsin on NYE so the bar goers are as excited as kids on Christmas morning.

On January 5th, we celebrated a belated Christmas with Tato’s immediate family at his mom’s house. The small group of 18 of us enjoyed Tita’s albondigas and Esme’s basque cheesecake. We reminisced with old family photographs, played festive games and engaged in a competitive White Elephant.

We also asked Tato’s niece, Camila, to be a Junior Bridesmaid in our wedding and she gladly accepted the role.

Almost everyone!

We ended the night with a quick stop at a Milwaukee staple, Leon’s Custard for a few pints (chocolate, mint and raspberry), a couple hotdogs and Spanish style hamburgers, even though it was only 12 degrees outside!

The following Monday we had a hankering for a nice steak dinner but in our wedding saving $$ days, we had steakhouse at home.

The weather was very cold so we spent a good amount of time inside, cuddled up with Poe (10).

As the Los Angeles wild fires spread, we checked in with our friends and family in the area and donated where we could. Luckily everyone we knew was safe! A cousin of mine sent a picture from her home window where you can see the fires creeping closer. We’re so glad everyone is safe.

The middle of January was filled with fun times with friends and food celebrating my 33rd revolution around the sun. We both had a little cold but fought through it the best we could!

We closed out the month celebrating cousin Benji’s birthday with more family and friends.

And to help get over the colds, I made Tom Kha soup with shrimp for the first time and must say, it was delicious.
