 Happy "1st" Birthday to my nieces, Kennedy & Kassie! Born on February 29th, 2024 they won't officially turn "one" until 2028! We celebrated their first birthday at their home with friends and family.

  The April showers came to inevitably bring some May flowers. April also brought some warm days that teased summer in Milwaukee. We worked on some Spring cleaning and eating; eating clean and with lots of color.  Citrus Broiled Salmon with a fresh herb sauce Topped with pomegranate seeds Plated with carrot rice, broccolini, garlic basmati and ribeye Early in the month, we celebrated our smart, sweet, Sephora and Harry Potter loving niece Camila's 10th birthday. In the middle of the month we honored my lifelong friend, my "framily", Alyssa for her bridal shower. I am incredibly happy she found a real one and excited to be part of their love story. I also got to spend time with my family and close friends, and was literally surrounded by my nieces the whole time.   June is kicking off with some stellar summer vibes. So I decided this was the right time to try my hand at an apple pie from scratch. Overall, not bad. When you pump loads of butter and sugar into any dessert, it tastes great. The crust definitely needs some work but it was a fun first attempt.  We started off cook-out season with two back-to-back cookouts at our cousin Fito's house - conveniently right across the street from us. One of the cookouts celebrated our cousin Charlie's birthday. Burgers, brats, birria and I made a delicious corn, black bean and avacado dip and some tater-tot cups that could be filled with choice toppings like cheese, bacon, sour cream and onions.  Tater-tot cups ready for filling Cucumber, lime and mint aguafresca  Stellar decorations for Charlie's birthday Treasures from Savannah Happy Birthday, Charlie!  The first weekend of June is Pridefest in Milwaukee. Finally, Spring has arrived! We welcomed the month on the first with a feast! Prime rib with mashed potatoes and squash AND camarones borrachos (drunken shrimp). Let meat rest at room temp before cooking Install herb garden Coat in butter, herb and seasoning blend Cook at 500F for 20 minutes, turn oven down to 350 and cook until desired temperature And enjoy!  And for the shrimp... Toast onion, garlic, tomato, guajillo and arbol chiles, add beer and simmer. Blend together for sauce, return to pan, simmer and reduce. Add shrimp and cook through. We checked out a new bar/restaurant that opened near our home called Area 51. It was their first weekend being open but we enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere.  Continuing the cooking, I tried my hand at baking bread from scratch.
